2024

The shortlisted projects in Spain, within the framework of the call for circusnext 2025, are: ‘Insula’, by Alexandre Duran and ‘El patio’, by Juan Carlos Panduro.

The selection committee in Spain was formed by Eva Luna García-Mauriño Suárez, from El Invernadero (Madrid), Cristian Londoño Diaz, from Café de las Artes (Santander), Sandra Arisa de Roca Umbert (Granollers), Victor Bobadilla, artistic coordinator of La Central del Circ, and Elena Zanzu, an artist awarded for circusnext in the edition 2019-2020.

The selected artists will participate, together with artists shortlisted by other countries, in the circusnext laboratories in various parts of Europe from August to November, and then participate in the next selection stage, which will take place in Paris in November.

About the artists

Alexandre Duran Davins (1997, Catalonia), has trained at the Rogelio Rivel school in Barcelona, École de Cirque de Lyon and the ESAC (École Supérieure des Arts du Cirque), in Brussels, where he has specialized in pole. He also has training in theatre, in martial arts, in dance-theatre and Krump dance. He currently is in the process of creating the piece ‘Insula’. The project explores loneliness along with the Greek concept Pathei Mathos (learn through suffering), through a pole outside its axis.

Juan Carlos Panduro (1998, Badajoz), has trained at the Escuela de Circo Carampa in Madrid, at the School of Dance and Circus in Stockholm, and the ESAC (École Supérieure des Arts du Cirque), in Brussels, specializing in hand balance. ‘El patio’ is his first project as a solo artist/creator. It’s a debut creation project that proposes a search for scenic authorship through the hybridization of circus-poetry and investigates the physical limits, ecstasy and longing for the divine. Reflecting on technique and form as an objective in itself, the piece takes the body in crisis as its axis and uses handstand, movement, writing and the voice as liturgy creators.

Circusnext

Circusnext is a project led by the French association Jeunes Talents Cirque Europe (JTCE) thanks to the support of the Creative Europe program. Since its creation in 2017, this network of more than 20 partners has been working at the European level to give visibility to unique emerging artists, offering residencies and exhibitions. La Central del Circ has been a member since November 2019.
