This week marks the start of the 18th edition of the EN RESiDÈNCiA project, an initiative promoted by the Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB) and the Barcelona Education Consortium (CEB) that connects contemporary artistic creation with the city’s public secondary schools. The programme invites artists from a range of disciplines to develop a collaborative creative process with students throughout the school year.

In this new edition, La Central del Circ is taking part in collaboration with artist Aurora Caja, who will accompany students from Institut Doctor Puigvert, in the Sant Andreu district, throughout a creative process centred on circus and dance as ways of inhabiting and relating to the world.

Aurora Caja

An artist trained in Fine Arts and Visual Arts in Barcelona, she furthered her studies at Flic Scuola di Circo in Turin, where she specialised in handstands. In 2016, she began her artistic journey with En Perill d’Extinció and later created No verbal, which premiered in 2023 and has been presented at various national and international festivals. In 2022, she developed No verbal o la pàgina en blanc at the Picasso Museum as part of the Grec Festival.

She has also taken part in other performing arts productions, such as Mundo Mundial, and works as a visual artist and illustrator, creating posters, murals and corporate imagery. Her work stands out for its distinctive style and use of techniques such as linocut, watercolour and Chinese ink. She is currently working on The Meeting Point, a performative work in public space that explores interactions with the city’s pigeons and other birds.

Circus and Dance as Ways of Inhabiting the World

Circus and dance are approached as ways of connecting with one’s own body, with others and with the surrounding environment, exploring sensory awareness through movement and physical expression.

The project brings together circus, dance and visual arts through movement, drawing, experimentation with materials and the transformation of spaces.

Aimed at Year 7 students at Institut Dr. Puigvert, the project takes the concept of space as its starting point to explore the school’s physical and emotional architecture. Its aim is for students to discover and transform everyday spaces through movement, create new narratives and develop a sense of belonging, making the school a place of their own where they can express themselves and feel at home.
