Trànsits

The Trànsits residency program, supported by the Barcelona Crea Grants – Fàbriques de Creació, offers assistance to circus companies that need a physical space and guidance to develop their artistic projects, whether in research, creation, or rehearsal of performances. The aim is to encourage artists to dedicate themselves more intensively to the investigation and development of their work.

To adapt to the stage or “transit” of the creative process each project is in, and to promote real progression, various residency formats are offered. Artists can access them through an annual call.

It is worth noting that the formats and conditions of the residencies are updated every year to best fit the reality of contemporary circus artists.

Research Transits - Barcelona Crea Grants

The research transitions are aimed at projects in the research phase and seek to highlight the importance of this stage in discovering the essence of creation.

This category provides resources to explore and experiment with circus languages and encourages the exploration of new performance fields. Challenging the logic of productivity, it offers the necessary space for companies and artists to experiment and work without pressure, allowing them to delve deeper into their creative authorship.

Creativity Transits

The creativity transits aim to support projects for the creation of an original contemporary circus piece. Companies and artists in the process of creation—whether in an initial, intermediate, or advanced phase—can apply for this grant. In this regard, proposals for already completed or produced performances will not be accepted.

This category seeks to provide companies and artists with a space for creative freedom to explore new forms and languages within circus. Support will be provided in the various stages of creation, along with resources to deepen artistic research.

T.E.S.T. (Trànsit Escènic de Sensació Tècnica)

This category offers technical residency and a first public performance. It is aimed at companies and artists who are in a very advanced stage of their creation process and who plan to premiere during next year.

The company or artist must have their own technical staff.

Transit of thinking - Barcelona Crea Grants

The circus mode of thinking aims to encourage and support theoretical research related to the circus arts. This scholarship is designed to stimulate the production of knowledge that stems from the experience and know-how inherent to the circus world.

Community creation transit - Barcelona Crea Grants

This category is a research residency applied to the field of community creation, in the context of La Central del Circ’s proximity. From this intention and to incorporate networked working methods, active participation with the Joia Foundation will take place.

This modality aims to enhance the creation and consolidation of horizontal, flexible, and lasting relationships based on dialogue with those involved in community creation processes.

Crossover residencies

La Central del Circ initiated this residency exchange project in 2015 with the goal of offering companies from the Transits program a residency and immersion in a different cultural context, highlighting the specificities of each participating center and their complementarity in terms of support for creation. After several editions primarily focused on our neighboring country, France, through collaborations with La Cascade in Bourg Saint Andéol and La Verrerie in Alès, a Lithuanian entity, the Arts Printing House in Vilnius, was incorporated into this program. Circusnext

The circusnext platform project has been selected by the European Commission as part of the Creative Europe program. Circusnext is the only platform dedicated to circus and recognized by the European Union. You can find more information about the project here.

Iberescena

Thanks to the support of the Iberescena Fund for Ibero-American Arts, every two years we open the ‘Circus Creation with an Ibero-American Perspective’ call, with the aim of strengthening the existing exchanges with Latin America and providing resources and support for unique contemporary circus creation projects.

This call is aimed at professional companies involved in a creative process based on artistic research and original authorship, residing in the member countries of IBERESCENA (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, or Uruguay). In collaboration

In collaboration with external entities and festivals, La Central del Circ hosts residencies for projects that are later showcased at other venues, such as Creació i Museus, La Mercè, and La Nuit du Cirque. You can find more information about these residencies at shows in collaboration.

La Tribu Performance

‘Paisajes temporales’

Sometimes changes happen drastically; sometimes we don’t perceive them. In one way or another we will always achieve a different outcome and it’s up to us to react to this and understand that nothing lasts forever, and everything is eventually transformed.

With the creation of the contemporary circus piece, ‘Paisajes temporales’, Eleonora Dall’Asta and Ana María Suárez, from Panama’s company La Tribu Performance, explore the inevitable process of change, using harnesses, counterweights and huge sheets of fabric. During the piece, the visuals are constantly changing: verticality becomes horizontal, lines become surfaces, and every moment gives rise to a new perspective.
