Maria de la Parra

The pre-selected projects at the national level (Spain), within the framework of the circusnext 2027 call, are: Bumbalum, by Seon; Suspendida, by Maria de la Parra; This Is Not a Love Song, by Otra Vez Lunes; and Urdimbre, by Luana Flores.

The selection committee in Spain was composed of Sandra Arisa from Roca Umbert (Granollers), Joan Ramon Graell, director and artistic coordinator of La Central del Circ, and the artists Thiago Souza and Zed Zanzu.

About the artists and projects

The company Seon was founded through a collaboration between the young artists Andreu Casadellà Oller and Daniel Esteban Lorenzo. The two artists met during their training at the Carampa Circus School in Madrid (2012–2014), where they began working on their first joint creations. Between 2014 and 2017, they both studied at the École Supérieure des Arts du Cirque (ESAC) in Belgium. There, they trained in Washington trapeze, acrobatic partnering, acrobatic ball work, and acro-dance.

Maria de la Parra is a social worker, emerging performing artist, and teacher. Suspendida is a work-in-progress stage piece that aims to explore trauma and how it permeates and expresses itself through the body. An alienated body is placed at physical risk in a (de)structured space with a slack rope at its center. Nervous laughter, past melodies, disproportionate reactions, confrontation, sensuality, and hypersexualisation intertwine to reveal fragility, desires, and limits.

Otra Vez Lunes is a contemporary circus company formed by Sofía Demicheli and Mariana Fernández, two performing artists specializing in aerial acrobatics, contortion, and dance, with over ten years of experience in the field. They share a strong affinity in their approaches and methods to scenic creation and research in fixed trapeze. Drawing on their personal histories, the artists aim to use satire to question political and emotional issues that affect us as individuals in our current context, strongly influenced by the popular culture we grew up with.

Luana Flores is a contemporary circus artist specializing in acro-dance, handstands, and acrobatic partnering. She trained at the Rogelio Rivel Circus Arts Center in Barcelona between 2021 and 2025. Her artistic research explores the relationship between body, materiality, and internal processes, with a focus on mental health and the use of craft practices as tools for scenic language. She is currently developing Urdimbre, her first creation as author and performer, which explores the concepts of character and neurosis through her relationship with crochet practice.
