EN RESiDÈNCiA

EN RESiDÈNCiA, a project from the Consorci d’Educació de Barcelona and conceptualized in cooperation with Associació A Bao A Qu, proposes to the artists the creation of an art piece specifically designed to be carried out with the help of a group of pupils from Educació Secundària Obligatòria (ESO). Throughout the entire creative process, the pupils actively participate in both the conceptualization and development stages. The creators leave their mark on the high schools as authors, developing their own works, and they convey mostly through participation, dialogue and direct contact with the work and its creator. Reflection and analysis are also crucial parts of the learning process.

La Central del Circ has taken part in the curriculum since the 2017-2018 school year, with interventions in various high schools in Barcelona. The main objectives are to enable each student to discover their own contemporary creativity process and reflect upon art from their own perspective. At the same time, we’re generating and encouraging happenings and contexts which stimulate artistic innovation and creativity, facilitating the means for high schools to become active spaces for culture, art and thinking, ones that welcome creativity, experimenting and innovation.

Each residence example involves three elements: a company (in this case, one dedicated to contemporary circus), a high school and a mediating entity, and it’s carried out through weekly sessions during the school year. One of the main purposes is for the students to acquire a different view into what art is, through the discovery of a particular universe and its associated creative techniques. The mediation field is responsible for the support and supervision of the creative processes, and provides the involved parties with all the necessary tools to facilitate access to contemporary circus works.
