From La Central del Circ, in collaboration with artist and designer Dani Buch, we present fanzine number 15: “What Humanity?”. This edition aims to reflect on the role of art in times of genocide and barbarity.

The fanzine is conceived both as a statement of position and as a space for shared thought. We are challenged by the normalization of hate speech, the devastation of the civilian population in Gaza, and the impunity with which states exercise power over lives and territories, violating rights. In this context, we ask ourselves what role art — and, in particular, circus — can play in its daily practice.

In addition to the symbolic image on the cover, this edition includes the testimonies of artists such as Maria Zendre, Luara Mateu, Alexandre Duran Davins, and Ashtar Muallem, who offer personal reflections on these issues. The editorial has been written by Joan Ramon Graell, director and artistic coordinator of La Central del Circ.

The fanzine also includes a section dedicated to the Trànsits 2026 residency program, supported by the Barcelona Crea grants. Participating companies and artists are: Cia. Victori Sickness, Maria Solà, Ginés Belchí, Antonia Solano “La Petaca,” Cia. La Bel·Bel and Jordi Cortés, Psirc, Olga_cirqanalogique, Clara Cortés, Kolektivo Konika, Cherry Matakila, Clara Pocs, Marçal Calvet, and Clàudia Vila.

Additionally, the publication gives visibility to the companies of the Espai d’Acompanyament and includes a presentation of the educational project En Residència, in which La Central participates this year with artist Vivian Friedrich and the Institut Doctor Puigvert. The Circulem project is also presented, accompanying the creative process of artist Guga in this edition.

We hope that the reflections collected in the fanzine inspire our artistic practice and help us support one another better as a community. As Joan Ramon writes at the end of his editorial: “Perhaps the question is not so much what art can do, but what it cannot stop doing.”
