On Thursday, November 20 at 7 p.m., a new edition of P.L.A.T will take place, featuring Cia. Croma and Luis Mantilla, artists in residence at La Central del Circ as part of the Iberescena program.

On this occasion, we will be able to see a short excerpt from two works currently in progress: Alguna vez fui by Cia. Croma, and Vestigios by Luis Mantilla.

Alguna vez fui is a contemporary circus piece that explores the fundamental role of memory and recollection in the construction of our identity. Through contemporary circus and its combination with other techniques such as dance and object manipulation, the work tells an intimate and emotional story, inviting the audience to reflect on how past experiences and memories shape who we are.

For his part, Vestigios investigates the handstand from an artistic perspective, questioning its form, meaning, and purpose. It seeks to shift technique toward invention, understanding movement as a living relationship between body and action. In this approach, technique loses value for its formal perfection and gains it through its poetic strength and its ability to generate meaning within the piece.

About the artists

Croma is a Chilean contemporary circus company that fuses circus techniques, dance, and theater to create innovative stage proposals. Their work is characterized by the use of object manipulation and the exploration of materiality, generating a unique artistic language. Efraín Salazar, founder of the company, investigates the relationship between body, object, and memory, exploring the intersection between circus, dance, and theater. He has developed original works such as Ensayo y error, Solo un marco, and Alguna vez fui, the latter delving into the relationship between identity and memory through the manipulation of empty picture frames without images.

Luis Mantilla, originally from Guayaquil and currently based in Mendoza, began his journey in movement through gymnastics before turning to circus arts, specializing in hand balancing. In 2020, together with Julieta Tissera, he founded Proyecto recóndito, a duo dedicated to movement research, with which he has participated in international festivals and workshops. In addition to being a teacher and former director of Cuerpo invertido, he currently teaches online classes and is developing Vestigios, a project focused on the artistic and emotional exploration of movement.

P.L.A.T (Free, Artistic, and Transformative Practice)

The P.L.A.T (Free, Artistic, and Transformative Practice) is an open space where companies and resident artists at La Central del Circ have the opportunity to share, experiment, and test their creative processes, fostering exchange and dialogue with both specialized and general audiences.

The aim is to create a space of freedom and innovation that allows the audience to approach the artist’s universe through the chosen proposal or format, without the need to present a staged piece.

The activity is free, with prior registration, and includes a meal prepared by a local organization or one connected to La Central del Circ, reinforcing the connection with the local community and promoting an inclusive and participatory environment.

Capacity will depend on each artist’s proposal, with a maximum of 100 people. The idea is for the activity to take place every month or every two months, usually on Thursdays, from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
