Open exhibition T.E.S.T.!, with Morgana Morandi

On Friday, April 11th, at 8:00 PM, a new T.E.S.T.! exhibition will take place at La Central del Circ. T.E.S.T.! (Scenic Transit of Technical Sensation) is a modality within our residency program, Trànsits, which offers the selected collective or artist the available resources to give their piece an initial opportunity for staging. On this occasion, we will see the exhibition ‘Miss SBarbie,’ by the artist Morgana Morandi.

According to the artist, ‘Miss SBarbie’ is ‘a collective punk story about our disordered bodies.’ Through clowning, contortion, contemporary dance, and a good handful of Barbies, Morgana creates a narrative that explores the ideal of female beauty and the collective imagery shaped from childhood. The performance reflects on the expectations imposed on bodies and the relationship we establish with them throughout life.

Synopsis

Once upon a time there was a plastic body. Maybe 2, maybe 10, maybe a 100… Or maybe a 101!
There were once a lot of little cyborgs that brightened the lives of little girls, allowing them to imagine all the possible worlds, places, and moments that those inanimate creatures could materialize and experience.
There’s Morgana. 
And there are the Barbies: my friends, my doubles, my audience, my enemies, my superpowers, my bullets…
There’s Franchina, the automated car… And, of course, there is Ken… Human!

Biography

Morgana was born in Bologna in 1995, along with her twin sister. After training in rhythmic gymnastics and studying Psychology at the University of Bologna, she discovered contemporary circus. She trained at the FLIC Circus School in Turin and expanded her knowledge in clowning, contortion, and contemporary dance. She also obtained a master’s degree in Psychosomatics at Villaggio Globale in Bagni di Lucca. In 2022, she founded the street theater and circus company Le Vamp and, finally, resumed playing with Barbies, bringing Miss SBarbie to life.
