The Circus Archive team presents the initiative within the framework of Fira Trapezi

Reflection
2025

Last Friday, May 16, part of the team from the Living Circus Archive, one of the measures of the Circus Promotion Plan of Catalonia (2023–2026), led by La Central del Circ, presented the project within the framework of the Fira Trapezi, in an event attended by around thirty circus professionals.

The presentation was given by Manu Valentín, historian and archivist; Ramon Bech, expert in the circus sector; and Marc Aguilar, software and collaborative platform specialist from the Bit Lab Cultural Association. They presented the measure aimed at preserving and disseminating the circus heritage of Catalonia.

As they explained, the main goal of the Circus Archive is to create a digital platform that includes spaces for representation and reflection on the past, present, and future of the sector, which is expected to launch in early 2026. The team also spoke about the project’s mission and vision, its strategic objectives, the various participatory meetings held and planned, and how the digital platform will be structured and function.

The experts emphasized the aim of creating a “living” circus archive—one that is constantly evolving and provides a vibrant and plural narrative, told by its protagonists and connected to the present. The digital platform has been entrusted to Nubilum, which has previously created the Archive of Teatre Lliure and the Digital Space for Modern and Contemporary Catalan Architecture.

During the presentation, some materials donated by artists or professionals from the sector were showcased, including images, posters, and other documents from the early days of companies such as Cia. Ínfima La Puça, Cia. Excéntricos, and Circ Perillós, among others.

The Living Circus Archive is one of 15th measures included in the Circus Promotion Plan of Catalonia (2023–2026), an initiative of the Department of Culture and the Association of Circus Professionals of Catalonia (APCC).
